Police rescue 3-year-old hanging from 7th-floor window

A three-year-old boy in Yancheng, Jiangsu province, was rescued by the police after the boy was found hanging precariously out of the 7th-floor window, People's Daily reported on Thursday.
The incident occurred while the child's mother was busy with household chores. The boy accidentally locked himself in a room and then climbed onto the windowsill, with half of his body hanging out of the window, putting himself into falling risk.
At this critical moment, the community staff immediately contacted the police while trying to reassure the child by shouting loudly from below.
Acting swiftly, police officer Li Xiao, along with his colleagues, rushed to the scene without any delay.
"The child was frightened and crying. The door was locked from inside and initial attempts to pick the lock failed," Li recalled.
He asked his colleagues to use a bamboo pole to push the window back from the neighboring room, preventing the child from approaching the window again, while also patiently guiding the little boy away from the door.
After confirming that the boy was at a safe distance, Li decisively kicked the door open and rushed inside.
Fortunately, the boy was safe and well. His mother expressed heartfelt gratitude to Li and his colleagues.

"This is our duty," Li said. And he reminded the mother to keep a close eye on the child and avoid leaving the child alone in the room.
Li graduated from Jiangsu Police Institute in 2024. In preparation for emergency situations, he maintains his fitness so that he can "step up, act fast and get the job done" whenever needed.
