The contributions of digital technology to empowering Sinology, Chinese studies, and the exchanges of civilizations were discussed at the 9th World Conference on Sinology, held in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, from June 5-7. It was jointly hosted by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation, of Ministry of Education, and Renmin University of China.

North Macedonian Sinologist Igor Radev said people worry if AI would replace translators and if AI could translate the works of Laozi or Du Fu. "I don't have a ready answer." He said he'd like to see AI become an assistant of humans in conducting research and doing translations. He added that the purpose of study is to build the moral character of a person and he can't see how AI could replace the human effort.
