Shipping, metal surges boost mainland shares

The Shanghai Composite rose 43.39, or 1.4 percent, to 3188.55 at the close, the highest close since June 2008.

China COSCO Holdings Co, the world's largest operator of dry-bulk ships jumped the maximum 10 percent to 16.08 yuan ($2.35). Affiliate COSCO Shipping also surged 10 percent to 12.32 yuan.
