BISHKEK - China-Kyrgyzstan relations will forge ahead with Chinese President Xi Jinping's highly anticipated visit to the Central Asian country, Chinese Ambassador Qi Dayu said in a recent interview.

Kyrgyzstan is looking forward to the Chinese president's visit when the Central Asian region is facing challenges of economic development and security issues, Qi told Xinhua ahead of Xi's visit.

Qi said China-Kyrgyzstan relations have enjoyed sound and stable development as the two countries have been following the good-neighborhood and friendship policy.

The two countries witnessed frequent high-level exchanges with mutual political trust and support. On the economic cooperation, China helped Kyrgyzstan with its infrastructure projects, becoming the country's largest importer and the second largest trade partner, he said.

They also share great potential in cultural and educational cooperation as three Confucius Institutes have been founded in Kyrgyzstan, the ambassador added.

As the economic structure of the Central Asian state is still in transition, Qi said, the cooperation between China and Kyrgyzstan will focus on some large-scale infrastructure projects, such as the North-South Road in Kyrgyzstan and the upgrade of Bishkek power plant.

Meanwhile, with Xi's "Chinese dream" under the spotlight, China has maintained a stable and rapid economic development regardless of the global economic recession, which has a great influence in Central Asian countries, including Kyrgyzstan.

Kyrgyzstan hopes to learn from China's experience and push forward its economic development with the help of the technology and investment from China, the Chinese ambassador noted.

Xi will kick off a state visit to Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday and attend a Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek, the fourth leg of his Central Asian tour.

The visit has brought him to Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Xi also attended a Group of 20 summit in the Russian city of St Petersburg.
