The Houston Rockets signed free agent guard Rod Strickland on Wednesday for increasing their backcourt strength, the club reported from Houston.

"Rod gives us another experienced veteran in our backcourt," general manager Carroll Dawson said. "He will give us more depth, as we fight through an assortment of injuries."

Strickland split time last season with Orlando and Toronto and averaged 6.3 points and 4.0 assists in 61 games.

The 38-year-old veteran has also enjoyed stints with New York, San Antonio, Portland, Washington, Miami and Minnesota during his career and has posted averages of 13.4 points and 7.4 assists per contest.

He currently ranks seventh in NBA history with 7,948 assists and 19th all-time with 1,613 career steals.

At meantime, the club released guard Brandin Knight, who made one appearance after signing a 10-day contract on Sunday.
