In a written statement issued upon his arrival at the airport, the Chinese president said that both being developing countries, China and Indonesia, two friendly neighbors, face the common task of developing the economy and improving people's livelihood, and shoulder important responsibilities for regional and global peace and development.

"I am pleased to see that, through concerted efforts, China and Indonesia have reinforced their political mutual trust, conducted productive cooperation in the economic, trade and other fields, and maintained close coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs."

He said that as the trend of world multi-polarization and economic globalization continues to gain momentum, China is ready to work with Indonesia to advance bilateral relations and strengthen solidarity and cooperation among developing countries.

"During my visit, I will hold talks with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, meet with other Indonesian leaders, and engage widely with the Indonesian personages from various circles. I hope and believe that my visit could further bilateral ties," he said.

Hu also said that the Bandung Conference, held 50 years ago, made important contributions to cementing solidarity and cooperation among Asian and African countries and to promoting world peace and development.

"I am looking forward to discussing with other leaders attending the summit and the commemorative activities how to further the Asian-African cooperation, with a view to carrying forward the Bandung spirit under new circumstances," he said.

In Indonesia, Hu will attend the Asian-African Summit 2005 scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Jakarta, and participate in the golden jubilee commemoration of the Asian African Conference 1955 in Bandung Sunday.

During his state visit, Hu will hold talks with Indonesian leaders on further promoting bilateral cooperation.

On April 26, the Chinese president will leave for the Philippines to continue his three-nation Southeast Asia tour.
