Emerson thanks luck and a shout for Juve win

turned it into the unguarded net to give the Italian champions a 2-1 home win
and put them through on the away goals rule with the aggregate score at 4-4.
"We deserved to advance. We played great in both matches. When the draw was
first announced everyone thought it was a done deal and that Juve would
advance," Schaaf said.
"But then it's sad to let a match slip away with a mistake like that. The
team didn't deserve to lose it," he told Germany's Premiere TV.
"Tim had the ball and then went forward and suddenly the ball was in the
goal. The punishment for that was very bitter. But that's the way it is. Life
goes on.
"He had a great match before that. He cleaned up a lot of tight situations
before that. The lad is in the locker room now and just devastated."
A distraught Wiese later added: "What can I say? It was a very stupid thing.
I have to sleep over this and try to keep doing a good job."
WIESE'S FUMBLE
French midfielder Johan Micoud scored early to put Werder 4-2 up on aggregate
and David Trezeguet's equaliser for Juventus did not appear to be enough until
Wiese's fumble after a cross.
"Before the match we said we'd have to play great in defence and he (Wiese)
would have to make some saves on shots that are unstoppable and he did that,"
Schaaf said of the keeper's fine performance up to that point.
"He made some great stops. It was first class the way he played. That makes
it all the more annoying about what then happened.
"He's got a healthy level of self confidence. He's come back from two back
injuries. Not everyone can do that. He has the confidence that he wants to be
the number one goalkeeper on our team. That brought him back up.
"He's going to have to live with that mistake. But I think he'll be able to
put it behind him. I don't think a mistake like that is ever going to happen to
him again," said Schaaf.
