A new traceability system for imported goods was put into operation in Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone in July, allowing for instant access to vital details about goods coming into the area.

The system, the first of its kind to be installed in Fujian province, is expected to reduce the incidences of fake or counterfeit items into the zone, as well as provide a greater reassurance for consumers that they are getting what they pay for online.

By simply scanning a barcode, customs agents will be able to instantly access information on imported products, such as its certificate and country of origin and other key product information details.

The first batch of goods imported into the zone using the new system was an order of Australian milk powder, with customs processing the order fast and efficiently.

In order to ensure the system works correctly, the goods will be authenticated overseas by authorities working with China Certification & Inspection Group (CCIC) before they set off on their way to Pingtan.

CCIC runs a global certification and inspection network which monitors all aspects of international trade, such as labeling, packing supervision, food inspection and origin details.
