A hall is being built in the Cross-Straits (Kunshan) Commerce and Trade Cooperation Zone in east China’s Jiangsu province to hold the expositions of Taiwanese enterprises, which will be displayed during the Shanghai World Expo in 2010.

The project was met with great appraisal form Chen Yunlin, Chairman of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits, who headed a delegation to pay a visit to the Cross-Straits (Kunshan) Commerce and Trade Cooperation Zone on November 25.

“Kunshan has set a good example for other regions in the Chinese mainland in the aspects of economic and cultural exchanges,” Chen said after reviewing the proposed hall’s functional layout, organizational structure and operational mode.

Several officials were in attendance to welcome the delegation, including Chen Yao, director of Jiangsu Taiwan Affairs Office, Yan Li, mayor of Suzhou, Zhang Guohua, secretary of the Kunshan Communist Committee, Guan Aiguo, mayor of Kunshan, Ren Xueyuan, director of the managing committee of Huaqiao Economic Development Zone, and vice directors of the managing committee of Huaqiao Economic Development Zone Shen Huafei, Zhang Jianwen, Tang Naixin and Cheng Wenrong.

The Cross-Straits (Kunshan) Commerce and Trade Cooperation Zone, covering 3.65 sq km, is set to be the first platform for commodities from Taipei to the mainland with five specific functional centers. The Kunshan municipal government and Chinese National Federation of Industries, which is familiar with Taiwanese enterprise demand, have both invested in the Zone. .

The Chinese National Federation of Industries (CNFI) is a nonprofit organization consisting of 152 member associations in various manufacturing industry fields in the Republic of China. With each member association representing a specific line of manufacturing, together the associations account for more than 100,000 industrial companies in the country.

Established in 1942, the CNFI (known as the Chinese National Association of Industries prior to 1948), serves as a forum for views and opinions of the country’s industrial sector and is aimed at upgrading and promoting economic development on Taiwan.
