LAGOS -- Any act of boycott the Beijing Olympics for political reasons was unforgivable, Nigerian world champion Olusiji Fasuba said on Saturday.

Fasuba is twice African 100m champion and record holder as well as a 60m world champion in the latest World Indoor Championships.

He made the remark in Lagos State Stadium when watching national trials for African senior athletics championships.

"There are so many athletes training for four or eight years. Because of some political reasons, somebody wants to stop them from competing. For me, I don't think I am able to forgive anybody who want to stop me going to the Olympics," said Fasuba.

"Politics and sports are two totally opposite things, and I believe it is very very bad for someone to boycott Olympics for political reasons," he added.

The world champion said he appreciates Chinese hospitality and modesty during his previous two visits to China, saying that Beijing will provide best service to ensure all the athletes to have a good time.

He stated his stance on doping, saying he supports a life ban on athletes who take performance-enhancing drugs.

Fasuba won the 100m African championship in 2006 and 2007. He established the African 100m record by clocking 9.85 seconds at the Doha Grand Prix in May 2006, breaking Frankie Fredericks' old record of 9.86. On March 8, 2008, Fasuba won the 60m crown at the World Indoor Championships in Spain in a time of 6.51 seconds.
