Giant octopus attempts 'prison break'

A video showing a giant octopus scaling his glass display tank at the Seattle Aquarium and reaching several tentacles over the open top, has gone viral on the Internet, raising speculation that it was trying to stage "prison break".

Aquarium officials denied the speculation and believe the octopus, named Ink, was simply learning to embrace his new home with all eight arms.

An employee later put Ink's arms back inside the tank, and fastened a so-called "evening cap" on top.

Ink is one of two new giant Pacific octopuses on display at the aquarium. Found in Puget Sound, an inlet of the Pacific Ocean in Washington State, they are the world's largest species of octopuses, weighing on average 90 pounds (41 kg) and measuring 20 feet (6.1 meters) across.
