A cultural week for China's Inner Mongolia is underway in the South Pacific island nation of Fiji featuring perfect performances and photo exhibitions on the beautiful landscapes of Inner Mongolia and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

During an opening ceremony at the China Cultural Center in Fiji on Wednesday, Wu Tuanying, head of the Inner Mongolian delegation and vice chairman of Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, said that through this event, people could deepen their understanding of Chinese culture and prairie culture, know the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival better and learn more about China's Inner Mongolia.

"No matter how many miles there may be between us, we both have beautiful scenery, charismatic culture, and hard-working people. I believe this cultural week will become a bridge that promotes the friendship between the peoples of our two countries, and open a new chapter for the exchanges between Fiji and China's Inner Mongolia," he said.

For his part, Chinese Ambassador Qian Bo said cultural exchanges have played an important part in China-Fiji relations that have developed steadily in recent years. And he believed that with the joint efforts of both sides, cultural exchanges and cooperation between the two countries will yield more fruits in the years to come.

Mereseini Vuniwaqa, minister for women, children and poverty alleviation of Fiji, was very impressed with the performance and the photo exhibitions, saying that she was indeed very grateful and excited to be witnessing this event, which aims to promote the cultural exchange between China and Fiji.

According to Deng Xianfu, director of China Cultural Center in Fiji, the Inner Mongolian delegation consists of singers, dancers, folk music performers, and intangible cultural heritage inheritors, and they have performed for local Fijians, spouses of Asian diplomats and will perform for school teachers and students and display handcraft skills in Suva, capital of Fiji.

He added the photo exhibition, in celebration of people-to-people ties over the past five years since the Belt and Road Initiative was launched, will help Fijians understand that they will continue to benefit from the China-proposed initiative.

Deng expressed his confidence that the five-day cultural week for Inner Mongolia of China, which started on Sunday, will be a great success as Fijians like this event very much.
