The Yangtze River Delta region has seen remarkable achievements in the regional integration and synergy of emergency management, and will continue to make joint efforts to ensure efficient emergency rescue and solid emergency support while reducing safety risks in the region, officials said Wednesday at a news conference.

Aligning with the national strategy of the YRD regional integration, emergency departments and bureaus of Shanghai and provinces of Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang have officially joint hands six years ago. Together they have been promoting coordination in various emergency management sectors including natural disaster prevention, emergency rescue, safe production and regulation, according to Ma Jianhong, head of the Shanghai Emergency Management Bureau.

He noted that the region has seen further integration of cross-region emergency support over the past six years. An agreement was signed to strengthen coordination among the hazardous chemicals emergency rescue teams in the YRD region. A number of emergency rescue bases were completed, including the emergency support base in Shanghai for major accident control and prevention caused by hazardous chemicals, the hazardous chemicals emergency rescue base in Jiangyin of Jiangsu province, as well as the natural disaster rescue base in Anhui province. Also, a cluster of regional helicopter aviation emergency rescue support bases has been established, such as the Shanghai Longhua Airport and Zhejiang's Jiande Qiandaohu Airport. These bases have formed a national-level emergency rescue synergy network, and facilitated cross-city and cross-province aviation emergency rescues.

Looking ahead, the region is set to further promote comprehensive emergency management synergy. A regional agreement is in implementation to build more efficient systems of emergency supplies and equipment support. In addition, an expanded synergistic network of national-level emergency rescue bases is also in the plan. Involving bases in cities including Shanghai, Ningbo and Zhoushan in Zhejiang province, Nanjing and Xuzhou in Jiangsu province, the network is expected to further improve the region's three-dimensional emergency rescue capacity.

The fourth Yangtze River Delta International Emergency Disaster Reduction and Rescue Expo will be held from May 13 to 15 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai.
