Port of Zhanjiang, whose role will be strengthened in Guangdong to become a hub linked to other port clusters in the country, according to the provincial development plan for the five years to 2015. [He Junfa / For China Daily]

Construction of the mega iron and steel project in Zhanjiang, a port city in Guangdong province,will be completed by Baosteel Group in September next year.

The project has an annual capacity to produce 10 million tons of steel,Zhanjiang mayor Wang Zhongbing told Guangdong media on Monday.

Meanwhile,the Sino-Kuwaiti petrochemical project, designed to process 15 million tons of crude oil and 1 million tons of ethylene annually,will go into operation in 2017.

Wang said the construction of a new airport in Zhanjiang will start next year and will be completed in 2017.
